Josef Trapani is an associate professor at the Department of Nursing, the deputy dean of the Faculty of Health Science, and a member of the Senate of the University of Malta. Besides teaching and supervising students at undergraduate and post-graduate level, he is the academic coordinator of the B.Sc. (Hons) Health Science academic upgrade programme, which is delivered entirely through e-learning, and of the critical care pathway of the MSc Nursing (Specialised Practice) programme. For several years, he worked as a staff nurse at the intensive therapy units of St. Luke’s Hospital and Mater Dei Hospital and at the Directorate for Nursing Services in Malta. For the last five years he has been serving as Co-Editor in Chief of Nursing in Critical Care – the official peer reviewed journal of the British Association of Critical Care Nurses. His academic interests include critical care nursing, evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, e-learning, health promotion, qualitative research methodologies and the Maltese language, including its application to healthcare.
