Dr. Steve Bugeja

I finished my training in Anaesthesia & Intensive Care Medicine in November of 2023, after successful completion of the European Diploma in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care.

I have a special interest in Intensive Care Medicine and Regional Anaesthesia – as a specialist I spent several months as a resident intensivist in our local ITU where apart from participating in daily clinical practice, I was also involved in setting up a number of guidelines relating to the critical care management of patients with ARDS and severe hyperthermic emergencies. I am involved in ITU-related teaching by giving introductory lectures to new trainees starting their ITU rotation, I regularly deliver case-based discussion and tutorial sessions relating to a variety of topics, and I have also lectured multidisciplinary specialists on the pre-ITU management of ARDS. I am currently preparing to sit for the European Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine.

I am also involved in the running of a regional anaesthesia “SONOCLUB”; as a group, we deliver regular hands-on practice sessions with the aim of teaching members of the department of anaesthesia the basics of ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks in the hope of expanding the regional anaesthesia service offered at MDH.
